Early Bods (Ages 0-5)

Posted on behalf of Humber Street Gallery

Bring your little ones along to this relaxed session where we explore light, sound, touch and smell. Using the exhibitions as inspiration these sessions will be a combination of costume, performance and colour.

Using the exhibitions as inspiration, the artist will create multi-textured wearable textiles, accessories and objects for children to play with and wear in the sessions. These bitesize outfits can include a mixture of long pile fur (reference to Open Barbers), leathers, fishing net and cotton fabrics. Aim is to use as much recycled material as possible (Charity shop donations).

Materials will be supplied by Scrapstore and selected Haberdashery.

The sessions will be a combination of costume, performance and colour. Artist leading the sessions can encourage younger ages to touch and feel the textures, whilst those at the older end of the age bracket can play with embodying characters and other forms of self-expression.

Fruit Factory (Ages 11-15)

Posted on behalf of Humber Street Gallery

Inspired by the exhibitions taking place in the gallery, participants will create their own artwork, using various mediums, which will be displayed on the Fruit Factory Gallery.

Fruit Factory will encompass two age groups on an alternating basis bi-weekly, and will be overseen by Humber Street Gallery's David Cleary.

For the first half of the Spring programme, participants will play with experimental drawing, design and playful creation of hairstyles and wigs with inspiration from futurism and Sci-fi with found materials. (Inspiration ideas to include examples like Ruby Rhod in Fifth Element)

For the second half of the Spring programme, participants will be involved in producing portraits, these can be self-portraits, other participants or friends and family. They will be encouraged to use different materials to construct multi-layered works that allow them to expand their horizons of drawing.

Results for the workshops will be put on display on the brand new Fruit Factory Gallery on the Ground floor, showing the initial design phase and the finished pieces. Participants will play active role and be instructed on hanging and presentation.

Not quite a revolving door: arrested desistance & persistent punishment

Posted on behalf of Dr Marguerite Schinkel, University of Glasgow

This talk will discuss how those labelled as persistent offenders often move away from crime for months or years. Such periods of desistance are often ended by trauma, but interactions with and the reaction of the criminal justice system also play a considerable role. Drawing on repeated interviews over 5 years with 37 men and women who have experienced persistent punishment, implications for the conceptualisation of desistance and criminal justice practice are explored.
